National Railway Infrastructure Company is established on 1 January 2002.
NRIC is the biggest state enterprise and the only railway infrastructure manager in Bulgaria.
The Company organizes, implements and is in charge of execution of some liabilities under a long-term contract, concluded with the state as well as it plans the whole activity for development of the railway infrastructure in compliance with it.
The main subject of the Company activity is: provision of equal conditions for use of the infrastructure by the railway undertakings; execution of activities for development, repair, maintenance and operation of the railway infrastructure; development of the transport connections and cooperation with the other railway administrations; management of the train activity in the railway infrastructure in conformity with the requirements to safety, reliability and security; acceptance and execution of all requests resulted from the obligations for provision of public services; implementation of the investment policy for development and modernization, maintenance and repair of the railway infrastructure for implementation of the European criteria and standards etc.
The Corporate Structure includes: Headquarters; Railroad and Railway Facilities Division and its regional units in Sofia, Plovdiv and Gorna Oryahovitsa, Vratsa, Shumen and Burgas; Train Traffic and Capacity Management Division with regional units in Sofia, Plovdiv and Gorna Oryahovitsa; Signalling and Telecommunications Division and Electricity Distribution Division with units in Sofia, Plovdiv and Gorna Oryahovitsa.
NRIC is a beneficiary under Operational Programme “Transport and Transport Infrastructure” (2007–2013), Operational Programme “Transport and Transport Infrastructure” (2014–2020), Connecting Europe Facility.
